Imagine taking overtly Christian videos into a public school system in a large city...It's happening in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, South America's fastest growing city...
The ministry works like this: a VEA worker shows a video that has Christian morals and values, such as on abortion. The worker then talks to the class and answers questions. The students are then invited to write out their more personal questions or problems. The VEA worker then collects the letters and confidentially answers them, giving them counseling and guidance.
The letters are eye-opening and heart-wrenching -- Bolivia’s children need the love of Christ. Latin American adolescents face the same trials and problems as teens in the USA--gangs, drugs, sex and abortion--with the added obstacle of staggering poverty.
The VEA staff personally counseled as many as 6,000 a year through letter writing. VEA ministry leaders are now focusing their efforts in more distressed neighborhoods.
The small staff of a half dozen part-time workers, who themselves are university students, and one full-time director, adroitly handles this tremendous volume of ministry. The university students gain valuable ministry training and experience while they plant seeds of change in their country’s youngest generation.
