| Leadership Training |
Leadership training is at the heart of LATCOM's calling, and this calling is in two parts. First, we empower church leaders in areas where they need help. Second, we take the Gospel to an under-served people group: secular leaders.
Church leaders
The typical pastor or church leader in Central and South America has a high school education and a few Bible courses. He is gifted and called to lead a congregation, but his church cannot afford to pay him full-time so he must work another job. He knows little about administration and accounting. He is dedicated but needs leadership training. Here is where LATCOM comes in: The School of Christian Leadership specifically trains church leaders. The school has classroom space at the mission headquarters in the city of Santa Cruz, but also sends out its instructors throughout the city and the nation. In the words of Victor Palma, Executive Director and instructor for the school:
"Certainly our society is undergoing changes in all the aspects and the church is not free from it… As a result, the School of Christian Leadership of EPLABOL is working in a new way to view churches, communities and institutions… we have established the School of Christian Leadership at our own facility in Santa Cruz and also establishing the school by traveling to churches in our city or anywhere in the country."
Community and national leaders
Poverty and corruption have long been characteristic of Latin America, and now social upheaval is on the rise. While many have turned to politics to solve these problems, LATCOM believes that these are symptoms of a fallen world. Leaders are the people with power and influence. By reaching leaders with the Gospel, whole communities can be influenced for Christ.
Each year, LATCOM supports moral and ethical leadership training to more than 2,000 military and police officers throughout Central and South America; supports advanced leadership training for more then 2,000 pastors; and trains more than 1,500 schoolteachers and principals in character-based curriculum. Many seminars and courses are given in the areas of counseling, communications, time and money management, team building, and principle-based leadership.
Partnerships
LATCOM partners with like-minded organizations in order to proclaim the Good News in Latin America. One such organization is Character Solutions International.
