LATCOM Purchases Mission School
We need a training center
Most of you are aware that God, in the past six years, has graciously allowed us to share the Gospel at the highest levels of leadership in Bolivian society and into four other South American nations. We are currently holding leadership seminars for community leaders in more than 120 villages and towns, and have been invited to reach even more. Our ministry into the public schools has allowed us to touch the lives of over 62,000 youth last year, and this coming year we are beginning a pilot program presenting Character First material to the elementary students in the city of La Guardia. Our hope is that with the success of this program we can present it to the Minister of Education and have this curriculum adopted nationally. As these ministries have grown, we have become aware of our need for a place where we can take these youth and key leaders and capitalize on the life changing decisions they are making; a place were we can take them away from their work and homes and help them form solid foundations in their lives.
Tambo will replace plans for Fortaleza
This need prompted us five years ago to purchase a piece of property in Samaipata on which to build a retreat center. We called it Fortaleza (Fortress). However, as we sought to develop this property, we discovered that wind, weather, water and a fragile environment prohibited us from building what we needed. I was discouraged at this news and wondered what God might have in store next. Here is the surprising “rest of the story.”
Three weeks ago I ran into a New Tribes missionary at the airport in Santa Cruz, Bolivia and asked him about Tambo, an MK boarding school run by New Tribes Mission in Bolivia that had been for sale. It would have made a great place for a Camp and Conference Center yet I had heard that it was sold. He told me, “No, it has not sold—are you interested?”
Your help is needed
New Tribes Mission has agreed to sell Tambo to LATCOM for US$300,000, about one-third of its value. LATCOM is committed to paying the balance by the beginning of 2006. Our mission in Bolivia has committed to raising $100,000 in Bolivia of $300,000. We also need US$5,000 a month to operate Tambo for the first two years while we get the programs up and running. Once again our staff in Bolivia has committed to raising $2,000 of this amount while the US staff raises $3,000. We need your help. If you would like to donate to this project, please send your donation made out to LATCOM with a note attached saying it is for the Tambo project. •
